ECONOMIC WAR AGAINST ITALY
Rome. "Since his father's death, Davide Casaleggio has become a central figure in the M5s. But the populist party, which has a real chance of winning "in the upcoming elections" has revealed little about Casaleggio junior's role and company ". In short, according to the Financial Times, which yesterday dedicated a long piece to Grillo's party, the M5s is not very transparent. But what do the other foreign correspondents think? "The Five Stars - Les Olivier Tosseri, correspondent for Les Echos, says - are increasingly similar to any party; they have normalized, they have currents and as a premier candidate they have Di Maio: one who is more Christian than himself cannot be found. In short, the big news is no more.

At the beginning, in France we thought that the Five Stars were a very leftist party, but now they wink at the center-right. I refer to the question of migrants. Today the Five Stars are more compatible with Salvini than with the Pd. Being anti-euro first was a workhorse, hours no longer talked about. Di Maio also went to Cernobbio to talk to the elite of Italian finance. In short, the reality principle always prevails and it is easier to conquer the government than to exercise it. It can be seen in Rome with the Rays. The only thing they take stock of is the alliances, which they don't want to do. They are an important node because with the electoral law that is there to win the power you have to ally with someone. In France the M5s was very much compared to the Front National, which however was afraid of gaining power. Now we need to understand if it's the same for Grillo's party. If they want power, they have to compromise ".

Alvise Armellini, correspondent of the German press agency DPA, recounts the evolution of the M5s starting with a meeting he had with Luigi Di Maio: "When I interviewed him almost a year ago, the vice president of the Chamber already spoke as a prime minister in pectore. And at the time, he said that the M5s was in favor of a referendum on the euro, of a negotiation with the EU on the restructuring of the Italian debt and considered 'the return to the Lira or the creation of a weaker euro for the economies' inevitable'. of the Club Med. I don't know if all this still holds true, in the light of what is told by Di Maio in Cernobbio; and it is not clear to me how much of this program is approved by the members, who had been promised the maximum of direct democracy. But in any case: seen from abroad, the most problematic aspect of the M5s is not so much its alleged 'radical' program, but the unpredictable or casual way in which this could be confirmed, renegade or simply thrown into oblivion in the case in which Di Maio really arrived at Palazzo Chigi. They offer neither reassurance nor the way in which Virginia Raggi is governing Rome, nor the uncertainty about the possible grillini government partners (no-euro coalition with Salvini & co.? The alliance with Bersani's pd leaked by Travaglio?) And not even the obscure role exercised by Davide Casaleggio (to whom, rightly, he was asked "but exactly who is he?" when he presented himself to the Foreign Press Association last month).

In short: abroad, Italy has the bad reputation - perhaps undeserved - of being a country too distracted by its own internal political squabbles to be treated too seriously. Of this the grillini certainly have no fault: but it would surprise me if they were able to straighten out the situation, instead of making it worse ". Adds Eric Jozsef, Libération correspondent: "The M5s has been attracting attention from the outset by moving on two tracks. On the one hand it has intrigued with the moralization of political life, sustainable economy, a certain youth in the choice of the ruling class. On the other hand, however, he has created enough questions, if not distrust, for his brutal attitude, through Beppe Grillo, the fuck and the stigmatization of the elites and of Europe. Then there was the government test, in which we observed the evolution of the M5s in Rome and Turin. There, in some way, there was an awareness of the lack of a ruling class. The Five Stars then tried to correct themselves and institutionalize themselves on some issues, I think of Europe. The figure of Di Maio serves this but so the Movement loses its originality, proving to be very opportunistic and playing as a garage. Today we see above all a movement that tries to exploit the weaknesses of others for mere calculations of power. It has lost its transgressive aspect of renewal. The opacity on the operation, on the decisions to be taken and on its political relations, even in foreign policy, is very worrying. Suffice it to say that the Movement was initially for Pussy Riot and today is aligned with Putin's policy. The key to renewal has failed and many opportunists have been infiltrated in the Movement who demonstrate how much they were
