Severe snowstorms have swept Algeria and Sahara Desert over the past two days. The south-central part of the country has been particularly badly affected. Several inches of snow have fallen in Algier – more than has been witnessed in over 20 years.

Near Athlone, young lambs have perished in the cold as drifts of more than four feet in depth were reported in several places. The deluge on Thursday night was accompanied by a particularly fierce and icy wind. This gale led to snow drifts of eight to 10 feet on some public roads, making them impassable.

In many country towns all commerce has been suspended.

Next week a more powerful, exceptional snow wave is awaited on Morocco coastline, from Nador to the southern city of Agadir; an exceptional phenomena never seen in the last 30 years.
Authorities are activatin the red plan for the homeless and isolated farmers.
