Gerhard Schröder: Trump is right and learned from Merkel's mistakes

Gerhard Schröder spoke out against Chancellor Merkel's handling of the refugee crisis in an interview on the ARD.
"It is no doubt that US president Trump is putting such an emphasis on securing the American border to Mexico. What happens when a border is not secured was shown in 2015, when thousands of illegals flooded our country." he told reporter Jürgen Haverbrook.
"Any leader protecting his people would act like Mr. Trump does now" he replied when asked if he agreed with the decision to send National Guard units to the border.
The former Chancellor and SPD-chairman claimed that Merkel was acting "dangerous" and confirmed that crime rates have gone up since the 2015 border opening. Nevertheless, he said that the new national-populist party AfD was not the solution: "We need to bring back border controls, even the SPD must understand that. The USA must be our role model."
The situation at the US-Mexican border remains tense, as thousands of migrants continue to march north.
