The Steelers placed Bell (knee) on injured reserve Monday. BJ Kissel of the team's official site reports.
With season-ending surgery expected on PCL and LCL tears in his right knee, Bell will yield the backfield to James Connor in Week 1 and beyond. Additionally there is just one other true running back (Terrell Watson) on the roster, so Connor appears in line to head a rushing attack that's much more balanced than most in the pass-happy NFL.
