„How British Do you feel?“, that’s the question we asked Nicola Butler, 27, from Edinburgh in Scotland. Furthermore, we asked her if she thinks Scotland should be independent from England. “I would say I’m Scottish first, but I don’t think we should be independent. I just don’t think it would work”, she responded. We asked her, why she’d think that. “We don’t have enough money and we’d end up like Ireland, skint”, she said and smiled a bit. “We’ve been OK so far – being proudly Scottish but also part of the UK. Scotland is different from the other countries in the UK, and we’ve always managed to avoid being overwhelmed by England. If it’s not broke, why fix it?”.
Most of the Scottish would say, if someone asked them abroad, where they come from, they would respond with “I’m British”, but if someone asked for their nationality, they answer with “I’m Scottish”.
